The Upstagers is a non-profit, all
volunteer organization. We are always looking for more volunteers
to be actors, stage crew, house crew, and administration. If you
don't have the time to devote several weeks in the production of a show,
there are still things you can do to be a part of the Upstagers and "Live"
theatre. |

The Upstagers 2010 Season
"My Way, A Tribute to Frank Sinatra"
March 26, 27, April 2, 3.
Featuring almost 60 of the songs
either popularized by or closely associated with Frank Sinatra, My Way
is an evening that pays tribute and celebrates the legend of “the voice
himself, “the man who recorded more than 1,500 songs. Come enjoy such Sinatra
favorites as I’ve Got the World on a String, My Funny Valentine, That Old
Black Magic, and Fly Me to the Moon. Very much a man who did it “my way,”
Sinatra was once asked how he became so successful. He answered in
three words: “Sing good songs.” And true to Sinatra’s principle,
the evening will feature works by Harold Arlen, Sammy Cahn, Richard Rodgers,
Lorenz Hart, and Irving Berlin.
"The Dixie Swim Club" June 11,12,18,19.
Written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas
Hope, and Jamie Wooten, the writers and producers of the classic television
series “The Golden Girls,” is the story of five unforgettable women in
a hilarious comedy about friendships that last forever. It is about
five Southern women whose friendship began many years ago on their college
swim team. They meet for a long weekend every August to recharge
those relationships. Free from husbands, kids, and jobs, they meet
at the same beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up,
laugh, and meddle in each other’s lives. The play focuses on four
of those weekends spanning a period of thirty- three years.
"Chicago, the Musical" August 13,14,20,21.
Chicago is a jazzy, sexy, sassy
musical featuring Fosse-style full-body dance moves. It is a musical
extravaganza of murder, greed corruption, and treachery. Musical
numbers such as Razzle Dazzle, Mr. Cellophane, Cell Block Tango, and When
You’re Good to Mama are reminiscent of vaudeville. Bob Fosse choreographed
the original production. Chicago’s 1996 revival holds the record for the
longest running musical revival on Broadway and is Broadway’s seventh longest
running show in history. An academy award-winning film version of the musical
was released in 2002.
"I Hate Hamlet" November 12,13,19,20
Andrew Rally seems to have it all:
celebrity and acclaim from his starring role in a hit television series;
a rich beautiful girlfriend; a glamorous, devoted agent; the perfect New
York apartment; and the chance to play Hamlet in Central Park. There
are, however, a couple of glitches in paradise. Andrew’s series has
been canceled; his girlfriend is clinging to her virginity with unyielding
conviction, and he has no desire to play Hamlet. His agent visits
him and reminisces about her brief romance with John Barrymore many years
ago in the very apartment Andrew now occupies. This prompts a séance
to summon his ghost, and from the moment Barrymore returns, dressed in
high Shakespearean garb, Andrew’s life is no longer his own.
"The Boardinghouse" April 17,18,
A Melodrama, staged by the Whitehead Museum and sponsored by The Upstagers.
Welcome to the Home Sweet Home
Boardinghouse, where life is anything but normal. The zany cast of characters
includes Mr. Richards, the poet, who practices dying to spark his inspiration.
Gladys Klotz is a taxidermist who has a direct line to the spirit world
and prefers her men stuffed, while Martha Willis has every imaginable illness
from leprosy to heart palpitations. There is the search for Captain Schnook’s
pirate treasure buried in the basement by the mysterious Dirk Shadow.
Booing, hissing, and popcorn throwing is encouraged!
